Woohoo! There is great joy at our house this afternoon. Brianna and I just finally poured out everything in the sheep jug and counted up all the change and bills (at least an hour-long job). We found a tad over the $120 needed to buy a sheep for a needy family through Heifer Project! Brianna started saving up this money (with many contributions from fellow members of our house church community) quite a while back after her lesson at church was about the Matthew passage where Jesus talks about doing unto the least of these. She chose buying a sheep as her way to give food to the hungry and clothing to the naked and more.We have counted several times and just continued to let it accumulate since she took on one of the larger projects. But we have reached it and are so happy. We just read about a little Bolivian boy named Carlos who received one of the sheep through Heifer International. The sheep gives three times as much wool as traditional breeds--enough to make ponchos for his whole family. He passed the first lamb on to a friend and sold the second to buy a calf. And he used additional income from his animals to help his father buy land and improve their house. Very cool to be a part of that.
